4. Passeio Público and Cinelândia

The Cinelândia district is a district in Rio. It’s also the city’s cultural and political center adjoined by the Passeio Público. The district displays stunning public buildings built in the beginning of the 20th century. The Academy of Letters is accommodated in Avenida Presidente Wilson. The structure that is modeled on the Petit Trianon at Versailles was given to Rio by the French government in 1923. It used to house a society of poets and writers. The key mission of the society is to preserve the Brazilian Portuguese language. Their other purpose is to promote Brazilian literature.
