There were no reported injuries when this massive sinkhole opened up beneath a building in Nordhausen, Germany. The sinkhole crater bottomed out at 50 meters, or 164 feet, which would have easily been enough to seriously injure or kill someone. The scariest thing about sinkholes is that they can show up anywhere at any time. You never know when one might open up below your feet. With any luck, the sinkhole will already be filled in with water and you won’t fall hundreds of feet down! And if it’s already filled with water, it might be another popular tourist destination that must be visited, just like this next cenote in Mexico.
