This aerial photo shows the aftermath of a massive sinkhole that opened in the center of Guatemala City, Guatemala. The huge, black hole was caused after a collapse of the sewage system in the San Antonio neighborhood. Sewer water had eroded volcanic ash, limestone, and other pyroclastic deposits beneath the city. Five people were killed and another 1,000 had to be evacuated from the area in fear that the hole would expand, or other holes would form down the sewer line.

This sinkhole may have been manmade, but the next one is one of the most well-known natural sinkholes in the world.
