The Foreign Office have said that ‘there is a high threat from terrorism, including kidnapping. On 27 October, 2016, the U.S. Embassy warned that the U.S. government has received information that terrorists are planning to carry out attacks imminently against places where U.S. citizens congregate in Nouakchott. You should be especially vigilant in public places, avoid places visited by foreigners, and monitor local media. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by foreigners.’
